Simple Gifts – Tenor Sax Trio (Three Plus Keys)

Framed against a drone-like accompanying ostinato, this simple tune is presented by each instrument in the opening segment, then adds variety in the middle with a momentum-building accompaniment, climaxing with a brief chorale section. The ostinato accompaniment returns at the end, complimenting the simplicity of this traditional tune. The piano accompaniment provides a reliable pitch center and gives harmonic/rhythmic interest to this traditional tune. The key signature, range and rhythms are beginner-friendly, while briefly featuring every player using evenly-leveled parts. The accompaniment also gives the beginning player who is still developing endurance periodic rests.
